Early Learning Program

    The early learning program is an initiative to promote effective early learning for students with disabilities or severe difficulties in learning or behaviour. This is achieved through support to teachers, school executive and families of these students in their transition from early childhood and early intervention centres to school settings and in the early years K-2.

Major Components

        The two major components of the early learning program are:

  • Transition to school guidelines for children with special learning needs

 The Program

  Provides information for families classroom teachers and school   executive

  • Gives practical educational and management strategies to families and school personnel
  • Assists in development of a whole school commitment to the education of students with special learning needs
  • Assists schools in the organisation required including students with special learning needs in the school.
  • Facilitates the transition of students with disabilities or severe difficulties in learning or behaviour to school.

 Transition guidelines

         Key areas addressed within the transition guidelines      include:

  • Information to parents on the transition process and their involvement in planning and decision making
  • Teaching the skills the child will need in order to be successful in the school environment
  • Consistent and widely advertised transition procedures across the state.
