Student Services/Equity Home School Liaison Programs Roll Checking Jon Oxenbridge fills the Home School Liaison role and can (and does) check rolls and OASIS records to ensure proper records are being kept. Workshops on Roll marking
Operation Roll Call
Street Beats Jon has been trialling the effect of patrolling town centres with police and/or the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (Toni Widders) to interview young people of compulsory school age with a view to returning them to school or their homes. Interagency Meetings Where social issues may be affecting school attendance, it is useful to have a whole of government approach. District Office personnel have regular interagency meetings with other government departments to coordinate responses to community problems including truancy. Home Visits Jon (sometimes with Aboriginal Education Assistants or the ACLO ( Toni Widders) will often make visits to the homes of students with poor attendance to facilitate a successful return to school. Alternative (Bridging) Programs From time to time (resources permitting) the Home School Liaison Officers will run special programs for reluctant school attendees with a view to building on successes to achieve fulltime regular attendance. Conciliation Conferences Where an initial 10-week intervention has proved unsuccessful, a move to a formal conciliation Conference may be convened by the District Student Services & Equity Coordinator on the recommendation of a principal or HSLO. Conciliation Conferences at the last step before unsuccessful closure or referral to Legal Branch for possible prosecution.
